The Fife & Drum Corps of The Company come in all shapes and sizes.
From small "family" corps to well-heeled exhibition corps, and
every degree in between, each is unique yet joined together by a common
interest: playing "Ancient" music.
Bring any number of Company corps together, from anywhere in the world,
and a jam session, or "jollification," is sure to take place.
Colonial or Civil War uniforms, male or female, young or old... the demographics
are irrelevant. The music is the common ground.
The member corps of The Company of Fifers & Drummers represent a
variety of eras and styles, from Colonial to contemporary, yet all coming
under the broad definition of "Ancient" music. While some limit
their repertoire to historic music, others perform modern day arrangements
of traditional tunes, adding complex harmonies and intricate drumbeats
to enhance the texture of the music while still maintaining the traditional
style.
Nearly every fife & drum corps is a local community activity. Most
don't require previous experience to join; in fact, many give free music
lessons. Corps Profiles gives you a look at some of the corps that belong
to The Company of Fifers & Drummers. If you are interested in joining
a corps, look for one near you on this website. Check back often... new
corps are added from time to time.
Corps are self-supporting, raising money through fees charged for performances
and other activities. If you are interested in hiring a corps for a parade,
festival or other event, the contact information for each corps is included
in their profile for your convenience. Corps that have a website or e-mail
address are linked from their profile page.
