| Colonel John Chester Fife & Drum is Connecticut's
oldest Junior Ancient Corps. Organized between 1939-1940,
the Corps' first appearance in competition was in 1942. The
Corps is named after the former Col. John Chester School (Wethersfield,
CT) where it was organized as an activity of the PTA. Realizing
the need to expand beyond the school, the Corps was sponsored
by the Exchange Club. Since 1955, however, the Corps has been
an independent and self supporting organization.
Col. John Chester Fife and Drum is committed to preserving
the historic nature for which it is founded and takes great
pride in its name. As an active member of the Connecticut
Fife & Drum Association, The Corps has won the State Competition
eighteen times and has been the Northeastern State Champion
on four occasions. CJC also belongs to the Hudson Valley Fife
& Drum Association and the Massachusetts Fife, Drum & Bugle
Association and has won championships on a number of occasions.
Over the years CJC has earned the reputation as one of the
top Junior Ancient Corps in Connecticut.
In addition to being competitive, the Corps is also proud
to be a member of The Company of Fifers & Drummers. CJC is
also the official marching unit that accompanies the Wethersfield
Volunteer Fire Department at numerous parades and conventions
around the state. The Corp maintains an active schedule each
year, appearing in parades, concerts, musters and competitions.
Some of our memorable appearances in recent years, include
playing at a former member's wedding, the Special Olympics
World Games held in New Haven, the CT Special Olympics in
Wethersfield, performing in Historic Williamsburg and at the
Washington Monument. CJC has performed at half time shows
at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY and at several
Fourth of July Parades in Philadelphia.
