Summer Concert: Bristol County Fifes & Drums
The Bristol County Fifes and Drums (BCFD) of Bristol, RI were first incorporated in Seekonk MA under the name, Yankee Volunteers. In 2016 the corps went into a partnership with the Bristol Train of Artillery, (BTA) one of 4 surviving militias in RI from the Revolutionary War. The corps adapted the date of 1776 at that time to become Bristol’s own colonial fife & drum band. The BCFD operates independently of the BTA, but performs alongside them for several important annual events.
Annually the group can be seen in over a dozen local parades and events throughout RI, CT and Southeastern MA. Their trademark look of bright red skirts worn by the ladies and simple black and white militia attire for the men, is uniquely their own.
Each season the Bristol County Fifes and Drums travel to a different region of the US or abroad for an all-expense paid concert tour. They have been featured performers for Mount Rushmore National Site, the Lincoln and Jefferson Monuments in Washington, DC., Jamestown VA 400th Anniversary (for then President Bush) and Walt Disney World. Their extensive travel resume also includes performances in London, Savannah, Charleston, Burlington and Niagara among many other wonderful places. The summer of 2017 brought them to Denver CO to be the guests of the Welcome Western Week Grand Parade where the group was awarded the prestigious Houston Warning Trophy.
