Kenneth W. Dalling, age 95, a lifelong Fairfield resident, the husband of Mary (Betsy) Dalling, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2023 in Shelton with his son, Ross at his side.

Ken Dalling MarinerBorn in Fairfield to Robert and Mabel Dalling, Ken entered the Merchant Marines at a young age and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II where he served in both the Atlantic and Pacific regions. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Ken started Dalling Heating and Air Conditioning, a well know HVAC contracting company.

Kenneth was best known for his volunteer services to the Fairfield community. He was the Fairfield Park Commissioner for 13 years and was the driving force in the construction of the Fairfield downtown Gazebo and the Coast Guard building. He also was a basketball coach for many years with PAL and played softball in the town league for over 30 years.

Ken was a Fifer, he was the first Chairman of the Company of Fifers & Drummers (read about Ken's role), and a lifelong member of the Ancient Mariners and the Whiskey Rebellion Corps.

He was a lifetime member of the Port 5 National Assn. of Naval Vets, Fayerweather Yacht Club, the George A. Smith Post 74 of the American Legion and a 50 year member of Fidelity-St. John’s Lodge No. 3.

Ken is survived by his two sons and their wives, Ross and Colleen Dalling of Shelton and Grant and Jennifer Dalling of SC; three grandchildren, Ross K. Dalling of Oxford, Kayla Dalling of Stratford and Bryce Dalling of SC. He is also survived by a stepdaughter, Barbara (Bob) Karosy and their children, Bobby and Jonathan of Bridgeport and a stepson, Mike (Judith) Olex and their children, Jeffrey and Brian. Ken was predeceased by his grandson, Matthew Dalling; his brother, Robert H. Dalling and his two sisters, Dorothy Hyde and Gladys Fitz.

Friends are invited to attend his funeral service at First Church Congregational on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment in Lawncroft Cemetery with full Military Honors. Friends may greet his family on Monday, February 20, 2023 from 2-5 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield Center.
