Terrence Edward "Terry" Hennessey, aged 81, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, in Englewood, Florida.
Born on February 12, 1943, in Danbury, Connecticut, Terry was known for his warm, caring, and humorous personality.
Terry attended St. Peters School followed by Danbury High School. He proudly served in the United States Army with the 3rd Infantry Regiment "The Old Guard" from 1961 to 1964, where he performed for dignitaries and heads of state from around the world as a rudimental snare drummer. His passion for drumming continued throughout his life, and he was actively involved with the Germantown Ancients Fife and Drum Corps, Celtic Cross Pipes and Drums, and served as Drum Major for the Connecticut Firefighters Pipes and Drum Corps. Terry was well known as an accomplished snare drummer, but he was also proficient in Fife and Bass Drum as well. He was a well-regarded teacher and music author. Many of his drum arrangements continue to be played by drum corps today.
Terry was an active member of the Company of Fifers & Drummers. He attended the first meeting of the organization and later served on multiple Executive Committee and Muster Committees before being elected the President of the Organization in 1989 where he served with distinction.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kay Hennessey; children, Michael Hennessey, Sean Hennessey, and Kathleen Hennessey; daughter-in-law, Mindy DiGiacomo Hennessey and Katherine Hennessey; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus and Mary, and his sister, Marilyn.
In lieu of a memorial service, Terry's family will honor his wishes to scatter his ashes in Connecticut. Terry's legacy of friendship, laughter, and music will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
