William R. Reid 87, of Old Saybrook, CT passed away on January 2nd, a Military War Veteran who proudly served his country as an MP.
He was raised in West Hartford, CT son of the late William and Rose Reid. He decided to move to Old Saybrook where he was a resident for 66 years. He created the Old Saybrook first Police car logo and was one of the first paid police officers in town. Bill was an avid Military Historians collector and operated a museum in Westbrook, CT. He created the Old Saybrook Fife and Drum and Corp in the early 70's He then went on to organize and host the first Christmas Torchlight Parade held every December.
Bill was a proud supporter of the town, creator and had a true passion for gathering his family around his Christmas decorations during the holiday season. He was a huge Military Vehicle collector and spent time camping with his two grandsons displaying their vehicles and knowledge. He preceded the death of his wife of 54 years Jackie Rouse Reid, Brothers John and Timothy Reid. He was survived by two sisters, Bettyann Butler husband Jordan of Old Saybrook and Kathleen Molway husband Robert of Concord, New Hampshire, his two sons Charles Reid, wife Janice, daughters Karen Hartt, husband Ryan, Tracey McCarthy husband Kevin, all of Deep River. Kenneth Reid, daughter in law Ginny Reid of Old Saybrook. Sons Kenneth Reid II, wife Thea of Old Lyme, Christopher Reid of Old Saybrook. His dear neighbor Karen Carr and six great-grand children. Bill was very happy to hear that there would be the 7th great grandchild due in June. He will be truly missed and certainly never forgotten.
