The Making of ‘Farewell to Erin’

Last month a group of musicians from diverse backgrounds developed and released the ‘Farewell to Erin’ project, which involved over 20 musicians performing a challenging piece virtually. In addition to the high degree collaboration and excellent musicianship displayed it also demonstrated a level of technical knowledge required to bring together videos recorded by the different individuals.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has seen the cancellation and/or postponement of many events both large and small scale. As state and local governments begin reopening and easing restrictions on the size of groups that can gather, musicians need to consider how their activities fit into these new guidelines and whether a different approach is needed when playing music.

2020 Concert Series Canceled

Due to the current situation with the COVID-19 virus, the restrictions that are in place at local and state levels continue to change rapidly. Across the State of Connecticut many precautions have been put in place to help manage the spread of the Virus and protect citizens. While we have been following the reopening plans diligently, we feel the timing of the concert series does not align with the reopening plans, and have decided to cancel our 2020 concert series.
2020 DRAM Canceled

Due to the current situation with COVID-19, restrictions are in place at local and state levels and they are changing and evolving rapidly. Across the State of Connecticut many precautions have been taking place regarding the health crisis around COVID-19. Under that purview, the Deep River Ancient Muster Committee, along with local Deep River area officials and state officials have made the determination to forego the muster for 2020.

Guide for Remote Collaboration

With Social Distancing becoming public policy for the foreseeable future we need effective mechanisms to bring our fife and drum corps together socially, facilitate the advancement of their musical goals, retain skills, and to provide positive activities for adults and kids without the ability to physically gather. The Company of Fifers & Drummers is able to offer a Guide to Remote Collaboration, which was the product of numerous community leaders who were seeking solutions for their groups and is offered to the community at large.

The Company of Fifers & Drummers would like to inform you that from February 1-February 28, the New Rochelle (NY) Public Library is presenting an exhibit on the historic Charles W. Dickerson Fife, Drum & Bugle Corps. The Company Archives Committee was pleased to provide research support for the project. A reception will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2020, from 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm.
